This tutorial demonstrates a technique to put some shape and highlight in the face in a way that's much more realistic than dodging. It's also much easier to accomplish. This is one of our older tutorials and the methods shown here will only work in Photoshop CS5 or versions prior to that.
Pop The Highlights
About this tutorial
This Gry Garness Photoshop tutorial, Pop the Highlights, shows how you can lift the highlights in a matte-looking retouched face to get more pop and dimension. It gives a shimmer or a shine depending on how it’s used. Due to a subtle but important change in the way Select > Color Range samples colors, this method only works in version CS5 and backwards. If you have previously seen the abridged version on YouTube – this is the full version.
